"In Literature, evil often triumphs but never conquers." This quote means that sometimes evil has the tendency to overcome us but the good always prevails.
I agree with this quote in terms of the character Jerry in the novel the Chocolate War by, Robert Cormier, because Jerry Renault a regular old kid who wasn't trying to hurt anyone when deciding not to sell the chocolates, was actually going for what he believed in. Jerry was on a journey of self discoveries, where he came upon forces of good and evil. He had gotten this courage to stand out from everyone else from a poster in his locker that stated, "Do I dare disturb the universe?" On the poster it had a picture of a man standing by the beach alone.That had affected him because just like the man on the beach standing alone he felt he had to rise above everyone and stand alone and not sell the chocolates. After that a kid named Janza picked on him about it. Jerry was always a kid who got pushed around and this was his big moment to rise above and show everyone how he felt. Little did he know that he would gethis reputation down to a bad level. I agree with this quote In general but for Jerry and the Chocolate war it doesn't fit in with the story at all. Jerry was an average kid just trying to prove his point to the school.
For other characters I also feel it goes. For example, when Goober gets his assignment to annoy and drive Brother Eugene crazy he ends up feeling horrible for what he did and the good ends up prevailing. Goober was Jerry's best friend and had a lot to do with the story. He was also someone who stood up for what they believed in, because he had quit selling the chocolates too. He also had other reasons why he didn't want to sell the chocolates like for example, he was sick of giving to Trinity and didn't want to be bossed around any more. He also wanted to stand up for his friend Jerry who was standing up aga…
