Last Of The Mohicans V. Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
There are both similarities and differences between Last of the Mohicans and Rime of the
Ancient Mariner. Both of these tales are considered to be epics.James Fenimore Cooper and
Samuel Taylor Coleridge were both "Romantics."Both were "Romantics" but Cooper was an
"American Romantic" while Coleridge was a traditional "English Romantic."Both were great
stories , but only one was made into a major motion picture.Rime of the Ancient Mariner was
written as a poem, and Last of the Mohicans was written as a story but later composed to a
movie. There are many obvious similarities and differences between the two.
One similarity between Last of the Mohicans and Rime of the Ancient Mariner was, that
in both stories there was a "last man standing."Rime of the Ancient Mariner's last man standing
was the mariner himself. While in the Last of the Mohicans the actual last Mohican was
Chingachgook. The mariner was the last man on the boat alive after the other one hundred
ninety-nine men were killed after two gods rolled dice for their lives.Chingachgook was the last
Mohican after he, Uncus, and Hawkeye battled the Huron Indians (Mainly Magua)to save the
two women, one whom Hawkeye loved (Cora) and the other woman (Alice) loved Uncus but
committed suicided after Magua murdered Uncus in cold blood. Both the mariner and
Chingachgook were independents after their struggle to survive.
Another similarity between the two stories is the spontaneity both authors used.In Last
of the Mohicans it was very spontaneous of Alice to throw her self off of the cliff while Magua
and others stood by and looked on.She surprised everyone by killing herself, because she never
showed feelings toward Uncus, but she obviously had e…

I did my book critique on The Last of The Mohicans by James Fenimore Cooper. James Fenimore Cooper was from a really rich family. He was born in 1789 in Burlington New Jersey, and had six brothers and sisters. He attended Yale when he was thirteen, but was expelled shortly later. In 1806 James became a sailor for a year and then spent three years in the Navy.In 1811 he married Susan Augusta De Lancey. He wrote The Last of The Mohicans in 1826. James Fenimore Cooper died in 1851, and is one of the most famous writers in the world.
In The Last of The Mohicans the French-Indian War is taking place.Duncan Heyward is escorting the Munro sisters from Fort Edward to Fort Henry, with Magua, who is an Indian and is their guide. The book takes place in the late 1750s, and in western New York. The plot of the book is that Cora and Alice are being escorted to their father, Colonel Munro, by Major Duncan Heyward and the Indian Magua.Later they meet Hawkeye, who is a hunter and a scout, and David Gamut, who is a young Calvinist who is trying to spread his religion through the frontier.Hawkeye accuses Magua of betraying his group by leading them the wrong way.Later, Magua captures the Munro sisters, Heyward, and Gamut in a cave.Hawkeye and the Mohicans come and save them and kill all of the Hurons, except Magua, who escapes.A few days later they
reach Fort William Henry, and when there is a battle going on, Magua recaptures Alice, Cora, and Gamut. Hawkeye and the Mohicans find Maguas trail a few days later and find them.A rogue Huron kills Cora, and Magua stabs Uncas (a member of the Mohicans) in the back and kills him. Then Hawkeye shoots Magua and he finally dies.
There were a few major characters in this book. One of the major characters was Duncan Heyward.Duncan Heyward was a major in the English army.He is also an American colonist from the South, and in the book is trying to guard the daughters of one of his
